Time: 4-6pm Lesson: Basics & US3470

*Lesson 2 is booked as required to track individual progress.

*Lesson 3 is held on the 6 month anniversary date on licence.  This lesson will cover preparation for the restricted licence test and booking at VTNZ.


STAGE THREE - Course Dates 2019

Street Talk Defensive Driving Course is booked 11 month anniversary date on licence.  This workshop is held 4x2hr workshops over 2 weeks.

*Practical lesson to prepare for the full licence test is booked 12 month anniversary date on licence and includes booking process at VTNZ.

I created Life Talk from my experience in working with youth and adults in gaining sustainable employment.  A driver's licence provides the means to get to work and life skills provides a strong foundation to navigate through the demands of adapting to work life.  It is pointless "teaching" someone about each life skill as it is only the teachers perception of what that skill looks like.  It is more beneficial to "facilitate" learning how each life skill is already demonstrated in a person's life.  Life Talk is a tool to draw from real life examples in a Participant's life so that the learning is relevant and specific to each individual.  Opportunities to apply their learning then reinforces those skills.

Stage One - Learner Licence

PARENT
•Upon registration the life talk information is gathered from the parent.
•$500 worth of services including fee for learner licence, birth certificate, resources, NZQA credits, transportation and support for child to and from the test.
•Pass on knowledge: life talk skills, pre-drive vehicle check, filling the car with petrol and paying.
TEENAGER
•US3462 DKO Traffic Law
•US17676 Pre-drive vehicle check
•US17563 Graduated driver licencing system
•Preparation for the test
•Support to book and sit the test
•Life Talk Workshop –negotiate application of life talk skills at home and gather evidence.

Stage Two - Restricted Licence

PARENT

•3x free driving lessons
•Discounted rate for further lessons
•Support tracking your teens driving progress through to 6 month mark.
•$600 worth of savings including fee for restricted licence, resources and NZQA credits.
TEENAGER
•Basics and setting up for driving
•US3470 Execute low speed manoeuvres
•Individual plan to improve driving skills
•Prepare for the restricted licence test
•Life Talk Workshop and application of skills in a group work/community service.

Stage Three - Full Licence

PARENT

•Free lesson to prepare for full licence test
•Discounted rate for further lessons
•Support tracking teens driving progress through to 12 month mark
•$600 worth of services including fee for full licence, Street Talk Defensive Driving Course, resources and NZQA credits
TEENAGER
•Street Talk Defensive Driving Course
•Lesson to prepare for full licence test
•US3465 Describe driving hazards and risk reduction strategies and responses to driving hazards
•US3466 Apply risk reduction techniques and strategies while driving.
•Life Talk Workshop – share how life talk skills have been applied in work experience, school life, home life, part-time work.  Goals for their future.
•Graduation – Celebrate the journey
